72-foot sail powers world’s first wind-assisted cargo ship

Wind propulsion company has successfully installed a 72-foot suction sail on the 292-foot cargo ship Na Hiro E Pae at Spain’s Astilleros Armon Vigo yard.

Operated by the Greek shipping firm SNA Tuha’a Pae, the ship carries 200 passengers and 1,500 tonnes of supplies between Tahiti and the Austral Islands, alongside the existing Tuhaa Pae IV.

The autonomous system is expected to reduce the vessel’s energy consumption by 10%, paving the way for sustainable advantages in global shipping. Read More.
