I won’t pretend like this comment includes everyone but losing weight without drugs is the much better option.

There isn’t a person on the planet who wouldn’t benefit from a prescription for Zepbound or Montjaro for one malady or another.

Healthy eating is better, tastier, and cheaper than taking drugs. The problem many people have is that during their time in the rat race they don’t have the time to lead healthy lives and drugs are a palliative.

In addition to healthy food, when you eat a bland food you eat to satiate your hunger. When you eat a tasty food, you eat more than you need. This is the underlying philosophy behind Buddhist/ Hindu monks eating. I have tested the thesis and found to be true. But I prefer tasty food.

Noom says the opposite to eat food you truly enjoy that is healthier. I tried that and it worked.

You can line up all sorts of things that work. But you can not line up everyone and say everyone will work.

I adore tasty food over bland “mash”, and have always (since discovering tamales picosas at age 3 when living in El Paso) included “spicy as hell” as a key part of yummy tastiness.

So happy to live in Mexico.

To a certain extent it’s the idea of Sensory Specific Satiety, too. My mum was ahead of her time with this concept. She had a somewhat limited array of menus…but rang the changes occasionally…and also was a somewhat “monotonous” cook. Not so much boring but didn’t go in for fancy sauces etc. “Good English Food, properly cooked” was her motto…or, as I would say, never encountered an herb or spice that she wasn’t suspicious of (parsley and sage excepted)

So, I got used to this notion growing up and, although I’m far more adventurous…and even introduced mum to new tastes and dishes…I am still a “minimal ingredient” cook. My food is nutritious and pretty tasty but not OMG THAT’S AWESOME!! unless I push the boat out on rare occasions.

Im certainly capable of eating to excess when tempted…but my everyday diet doesn’t push me that far. By design. Never been fat…don’t intend to start now.

Edit…here you go…

Tasty does not have to be bland. The problem with highly processed foods is that they are engineered to be addictive.

A renowned chef commented that the perfect seasoning is one you love but can’t figure out the ingredients.

I only visited Mexico once, when IBM sent me to their sales school in Cuernavaca. My dad told me to visit Herr Jelinek, a friend and client from pre war Berlin. Herr Jelinek had two lovely daughters and a restaurant. His cook prepared for him all the great Mexican dishes but without the spice. I loved it!

I was in New Orleans on the way to Cuernavaca the day Kennedy was shot.

There isn’t a person who wouldn’t benefit from getting their rear-end off the couch and eating less garbage. The problem is, majority of Americans would rather take a pill/shot than put in a little effort.

BINGO!

As they say

Bon appetite

You can eat fewer calories with better taste if you plan your meals.

Little effort is not going to cut it. Let us be real. if you are going to be sitting all day (because of your work), you need to compensate that with workout and it is not going to be little.

For many maintaining a weight is a battle. Our genes have evolved over millennium, haven’t adjusted for plentiful, rich, easy food. The genes still expect you to do hard labor for 8 to 10 hours, and we are sitting 8 to 10 hours. So I am sympathetic to folks who need help to get healthier. The alternative sucks. Understand it is not they don’t try, but it requires lot of effort, that is the problem.

At least in my case, it took calorie counting not more exercise.

People have to find their way. Without the drugs, I would have little faith in most of them to do so.

Seems like the genes that lead to speaking the English language also lead to a tendency to be overweight as well. :smiling_imp:

Please tell that to the Chinese middle and upper classes. I would also have said Indian, but…

Speaking of food, since prices are high for eating out everywhere, I’m always amazed at the long lines at fast food drive throughs and convenience stores at lunch time. Apparently, people have tons of money to eat out at these places everyday, plus have the money to have someone cut their grass.

People of all income levels aren’t hurting that bad if they have the money or spend the money on these items.

I’m not broke, far from it, to go out to eat is a treat for me and also a social thing….I don’t do it regularly nor do I stop by a convenience store or fast food place for food unless I”m desperate, low blood sugar and didn’t pack a snack in the car.

I’m still cutting my grass and doing some other yard work but I must confess, when my back starts talking to me(aka pain) I think about hiring someone. Maybe one day, the only time I hire out is to do the heavy duty pruning on tall hedges and trees.

congrats on your food and exercise routine Capt. I always think of you when I read about the VZ and of course the political pablum here recycling those old tired and disastrous solutions.

Lucky Dog, just checking in again and so nice to see familiar posters.

I have helped a number of both legally bankrupted and equivalently bankrupted friends and church acquaintances recover and thrive. Most of them had no idea that eating out, even at crud joints, or paying to have lawns mowed, was wasteful of money.

A lot of poverty is fundamental conceptual ignorance. “Everyone else” is doing it, and so that must be how it is done.

Most of my wealth came from mom and dad having trained me to see “most people” as idiots.
