So, I am not imagining I’ve lost quite a few people I used to follow on Twitter.
Bouzy told the MIT Technology Review that they arrived at those numbers by analyzing a small portion of Twitter accounts and determining the percentage of users that deactivated their accounts. They then applied that percentage to the total number of Twitter users – which currently stands at 237million accounts.
Bot Sentinel noticed that 11,535 of the accounts they monitor deactivated between October 27 and November 1, while another 6,824 were suspended – 0.59% of all accounts the site tracks. They then scaled that percentage up to the total user base of Twitter.
‘We believe the uptick in deactivations is a result of people upset with Elon Musk purchasing Twitter and deciding to deactivate their accounts in protest,’ Bouzy said, but admitted this was based on anecdotal evidence.
As if this can’t get worse, Musk is imagining himself to be a bad character out of an Ayn Rand pulp novel. If he unleashes a “thermonuclear name and shame” of corporations who won’t advertise on Twitter, he’s going to lose even more shareholders, car buyers, and big Twitter accounts which line his pockets. He’s got a case study on this staring him in the face with his buddy Ye (Kanye West) burning up billions of goodwill daily as one business after another deserts him. This is Medicine Cabinet Reactionary Management™:
Woah! The CEO of Media Matters, Andrew Carusone, explains in a short thread why Musk is losing it with Twitter advertisers at this moment. This is some interesting insider marketing knowledge he drops here.
Musk must be unbearable to be around inside Twitter HQ:
Well, I wasn’t wrong. Yesterday at an investment conference in New York, Musk said
“Still, he said, “once Twitter’s set on the right path, it’ll be much easier to manage than SpaceX or Tesla.”
Heh. Media is a gigantic, sucking black hole that is endlessly empty and needs to be refilled daily, hourly, depending on the media. With Twitter I expect the challenges to come by the minute, millions of them, and while he’s famous for his working hours, I believe he has drastically underestimated what it takes to be on top of a media organization, especially one with worldwide reach, and a favorite of trolls.
Guys of little faith, relax. Running a simple media company should be a cakewalk for the Muskrats who bow to Lord Elon daily and who have arrived at Twitter HQ to give those lesser mortals a lesson in superintelligence.
Although, this report sounds like Elon sent in his clowns:
Bloomberg breaks news that blue check marks on Twitter (the $8.00 ones which anyone can buy now) will not go into effect until after Tuesday’s election:
Elon Musk plans to let Twitter users make more money off all forms of content—possibly offering a better deal than YouTube’s monetization model—and to give users the ability to create longer posts and videos.
Twitter’s new owner hinted at the new features in tweets this weekend. When influencer Quinn Nelson tweeted that YouTube “gives creators 55% of ad revenue,” Musk replied, “We can beat that.”
Earlier, a content creator said he’d consider posting his full-length videos to Twitter given the right incentives to do so.
"Hey Russia, are you listening? Be sure to vote tomorrow the way the private owner of Twitter wants you to vote. The “Vote Republican” noise on Twitter today is hard to take.:
**p.s. Irony: Three of the country’s most dangerous Libertarians, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, and Lara Logan are all pulling out the stops to throw the elections tomorrow to the Republicans. Libertarian is just another word for “Support the Citizen vs. United” Supreme Court Decision. That “T” on all Teslas? Stands for “Traitor.” **
I keep seeing mentions for Mastadon on Twitter today. I don’t plan on using it, but who knows?
