It is kind of funny, the second richest man can tie up the IRS ordered audit of Amazon if one happens for decades. Don’t sue a rich man or rich corporation.
When the billionaires donated and fell in line…you knew they were bide their time before declaring go to hell.
As an Amazon customer, I would like to know that something I thought should cost $100 actually now costs $240. Bezos is protecting himself, being transparent, and letting the customer know what the overall tax of a product consists of. I would think that even though Bezos has bent the knee to Trump before, he would ultimately bend the knee to his customer base.
Looks like Amazon
• didn’t say that
• isn’t going to do that
• was only going to do that on an Amazon site that I’ve never heard of
• is still on its knees
Amazon (AMZN) is denying reports that it will display the impact of tariffs next to the price of products on its e-commerce site that drew the ire of the Trump administration on Tuesday.
According to Washington Post reporter Jeff Stein, Amazon said it was never considering adding the additional cost caused by tariffs next to the price of goods on its main website, but rather was contemplating doing so on its low-cost Amazon Haul site.
Agreed, let’s take it one step further. As an informed customer, I’d like to see the tariff impact on the entire supply chain. That’s the only way to create some transparency as to who’s paying for what.
People are dumb. They may see they’re paying a higher price, but they’ll probably wrongfully assume that everyone in the supply chain is paying some level of increased cost. It may also highlight which companies are eating some of the increased cost, as opposed to passing it all down to the consumer.
Maybe the CFPB could take this on…oh wait…nevermind.
I suspect Amazon only did this with their new “Amazon Haul” division. It was set up to directly compete with Temu … rock bottom prices usually shipped direct from the place of manufacture (that’s part of how they keep rock bottom prices, no layers of distribution, no layers of shipping, etc).
(I’ve bought stuff from “Haul” and it is generally the same ‘garbage’ as the stuff from Temu.)
This appears to be targeting middle management to increase profitability. It is still not good, but it doesn’t seem to be connected to Trump’s tariff tantrum.
