Ambassador Chas Freeman on Syria and the World

This interview seems to me one of the best descriptions of the happenings in Syria while I don;t share many of his political views

Two invasions, Russia invading Ukraine and Hamas invading Israel, were the catalysts for upsetting the world’s balance of powers. Brings to mind the 20th century assassination that set in motion the events leading to the Great War and its sequel. What the two invasions have unearthed are the real powers instead of the assumed but incorrect powers. I think we are in for continued turmoil until the waring factions come to a working accommodation. Armistices and cease fires don’t work.

This isn’t really the right way to state it. Russia invading Ukraine and Iran using Hamas/Hizb’Allah to attack Israel were the catalysts. And with any luck, both Russia and Iran (two of the world’s worst evildoers) should suffer great declines due to their actions. That’ll serve as an abject lesson to others in the world (China, North Korea, etc) that think they could potentially pull off warring with their neighbors without grave consequences. Hopefully it also causes the people to choose better leaders or to choose to remove bad leaders.
