I’m surprised at the price. $69 for the battery plus $49 to rent the 79 pounds of tools to complete the job for a week. With Apple paying the shipping both ways, this doesn’t look like a profit center to me.

It’s not. It is Apple’s way of grudgingly making it a big pain-in-the-a__ so few people do it.
They were forced into this by various right-to-repair laws.
