Apple is going to need to compromise on the app store fees

Al,

You have such a shallow understanding of any of this.

When you say “adamantly” what doesn’t Jordan say adamantly? It is his only mode of being. It is not like he means it when he gets to make the decision. He only means it when he doesn’t get to make the decision.

The minority party simply objects all day long against the larger party. In power the minority party takes different positions. Thinking Jim Jordan is going to be consistent when the chair is really not on. Really? Jim Jordan and power “consistent”? C’mon Al. He is not a statesman. He is a camaleon who does not even know what he will say next. He aint much and unfortunately it is all they gots.

Apple does not inspire the right wing to believe their speech is guaranteed. Musk has tapped into that excellently. Jordan will use that politically.

    You are truly very funny. Where have you been? Since 2016 this has been the only mode of behavior in the GOP. It is not like Musk is the first Republican do operate this way. We just had a guy tweeting at 6 AM from the Lincoln Bedroom invent this.

You may believe anything you want, but the rest of us prefer facts. Here is a link to Executive Order 14082 that you are referring to - Federal Register :: Implementation of the Energy and Infrastructure Provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022

Can you tell us which section contains “an order that the federal fleet b[e] union made”?

Also, if this is indeed the case, I’m not sure which vehicles the federal government might order, right now only the Chevrolet Bolt family of cars, the F150 lightning, and the Hummer are union made.

Mark,

I am being very specific that Biden ordered US government fleet purchases to be EV union made regardless of the IRA. But I am not finding Biden’s order in Google searches.

Interestingly in another discussion on Musk swaying government policy others here give him zero credit for doing so with Twitter…but this…you are saying the union language was pulled for the IRA. {That was not what I was arguing regardless of what you were saying)

snippet

One proposed electric vehicle incentive in the president’s Build Back Better bill applies a more generous tax credit for union-made vehicles, a provision that has drawn ire from Tesla CEO Elon Musk. While Tesla has manufactured more electric vehicles for the U.S. market in America than any other automaker, its workers are not represented by a union. (as you are saying it was pulled from the IRA)

I said nothing at all about Musk in relation to the IRA bill! I don’t think Musk had anything at all to do with dropping the union language. I think it was part of the wrangling in the House and Senate. They couldn’t get enough votes to pass it with the union language in it, so they took it out. That’s how ALL legislation works … a bill gets endlessly massaged until it can get enough votes in both houses to pass.

I bet you could find all sorts of interviews, and other comments, about it. But you can’t find an actual order … because that order hasn’t been given yet. Remember, Biden, like many others of all parties, is a master politician and says LOTS of things that sound good to many supporters, but doesn’t always do those things.

Mark,

In another thread same stuff, the IRA’s Section 48 C has not been determined yet according the secretaries of transportation and energy as far as I can tell. The APA gives the secretaries the power to set the rules for the IRA tax credits.

And you won’t either. Mark laid it out pretty well. Everything in the bill and executive orders says “prevailing wage.” Which is indeed a union protection measure. So politicians may say “union jobs” but what they really mean is union-friendly jobs.

As a former federal government contractor, pretty much all of our jobs (maybe all) were prevailing wage so that’s what we paid our contractors. But we never hired a union shop for anything.

That was during supply side econ which is over now.

Again the Section 48 C has not seen the rules set up yet.
