appliance supply

About the supply chain thing, I think:

We have unfortunately had to replace a dishwasher and a washing machine this week. I’m discovering that good appliances are not always available.

I did my research and chose a certain Bosch dishwasher–and I was overjoyed when it was available in an ADA version. It was delivered, but had a big dent in the door, so I sent it back. The replacement arrived and was installed–and we discovered a dent in the door after installation. So I tried for a replacement–but there were no more to be had, not that brand, and no similar dishwashers. Just cheaper brands that I had rejected because of poor reviews. I wound up keeping the dented one and getting a small gift card to compensate for the dent–I’m not happy about that, but at least my dishes are getting clean. (Months of washing dishes by hand for seven people was a bit much for me.)

The washing machine–once again, did my research. The model that I wanted was not available. Not anywhere. I wound up with the same brand, but a smaller washer. (Once again–seven people. The small washer will work, but really could have used a larger one.) The only top-loader washers in the stores were from brands with low ratings.

Anyhow, just a warning folks. Don’t wait until the last minute and expect to get what you want, because it may not be there.

Same here. We are dabbling in a few renovations and delivery times on many items reach two months.

In addition, delivery into the apartment appears on its way out, curbside delivery seems to be the exclusive Modus operandi.

Not all that convenient if you expect a 60kg fridge/ freezer combo within a three hour or so slot and the guys wouldn‘t even take a bribe to deliver onto your floor…

Keep in mind, there is a protectionist tariff being imposed on Korean washers, making everything more expensive. iirc the tariff ends next January or February.

I have relayed before the story of when my Samsung washer failed a year ago. Mosied over to Lowe’s. New Samsungs not available. Only option was a low rated Whirlpool, for 50% more than I gave for the Samsung. A bit of research, laying the washer on it’s side to take a look at the offending pump, and an order to Amazon, yielded a replacement pump motor for about $40. Back in business with my old Samsung.

Now that you have what you don’t want all the shipping containers will get unloaded and there will be plenty of everything in stock as consumer spending goes down.

Took us 6 months to get a refrigerator delivered to our beach condo. The refrigerator on our house we are still waiting on a replacement ice maker part for a least 6 months. Thinking the model will be out of date, i.e. no longer making parts, before we can get it repaired.

Yep, that’s how it goes. I’m getting my washing machine next week. I’ve already decided that if this one starts to break down in two years or so, I’m going to go hog wild and buy a commercial Speed Queen.
