George Carlin Talks About “Stuff”

Carlin was a genius. I wish he was still around, would luv to hear his takes on the absurdities of current times.
At the end of his life he was severely disillusioned, saying that humans were “a failed species.” Given his lifelong cynicism, that’s perhaps an understandable philosophical viewpoint.
(For those who can, MAX has a 2 part retrospective of his life, from Hippie-dippy Weatherman and Tonight Show comic to bearded anti-establishment spokesman, and at the end (forced by the emergence of a new breed of in-your-face comics like Sam Kineson & others) a political night crawler spouting on the insanities and inanities of the modern world. Excellent show.)

don’t have Max, but it might be worth a months subscription just to see that show. My 1st memories of Carlin were the 7 Words you can’t say in public, which my adolescent self found to be hilarious. As he aged, I liked his takes on the state of America.
Trying to help instill in my 15 y/o nephew the idea of buying quality vs. cheap. Buy quality, you cry once when you pay. Buy cheap, you’ll cry at least twice, when you pay the first time and then when you buy the replacement.
Also trying to teach not buying until you need something, i.e., is there a work around to. use stuff you have if you will only be doing something once or twice. Buy that upgrade once you’ve proven you’ll be doing that job over and over again.

I’m so old, I remember when he had short hair and wore suits. One line I remember from the weatherman bit was about the radar picking up a line of thunderstorms, but “the radar is also picking up a squadron of Russian ICBMs, so I wouldn’t sweat the thunderstorms”. Another: “The forecast for tonight is dark, with increasing light toward morning”. Forecasts with that level of logic are now real “200 Million people impacted by winter weather (in the winter)”

My dad always says “The next time I move, I’ll be in a box.” And when I think about it, maybe one of the good things about dying is that you don’t have to worry about “stuff” anymore.
He is one of my all-time favorites. Along with other luminaries such as Robin Williams, Eddie Murphy, Bob Newhart, Ricky Gervais, etc.
All species are failed species. That’s because the evidence shows that eventually they “all” fail. I think something like 99.99% of all species that have ever existed are extinct. There’s no reason at all to assume that H0mö Sapiens will be any different in time.
Umm, there are a lot of really successful people with low IQ. In the US, you can even be elected president!
Some of the dumbest people I know benefitted from a lot of nepotizzzzz.
