As noted in the article, starting in 2025, Hapag-Lloyd is teaming up with Maersk. Most of the time, when these recent large liner newbuild orders have been placed, the orders have generally been the larger sizes - above 13,000 TEU sizes. I think Hapag Lloyd’s order with two different sizes suggest a different approach - possibly some optionality on routes.
