The leadership decisions are very different.
Very much so. They are rearming as a response to Putin (and US ambivalence about Europe and NATO).
The sudden decrease in energy supply from the Russian sanctions hurts, but that is the case for any nation that relies upon only one source (or one primary source). I think they were trying to diversify, but the 2022 invasion didn’t allow them to phase out reliance on Russian gas as gradually as they had hoped. I suspect they will be trying to build-out a more diversified energy portfolio, but that will take time.
The loss of cheap Russian oil and gas was felt by most European nations.
Nothing at all like the 1930’s depression and then rearming.
Currently Germany is not rearming for the invasion of neighboring countries.
