BYDDY (plus 15 stupid characters)

I’ve been contemplating this all week (I waited a bit too long) but I finally bit the bullet and purchased a sizable chunk of BYDDY (the BYD ADR) this morning.

Look out below! You have been warned.

I have the stock too from a month or so ago. So far so good. I’m apprehensive abt Chinese accounting, but they do seem to be low cost producers and aggressive about expanding globally. And new high speed charging shows they are innovative too.

I think Warren Buffett was an early investor but think he sold his position.

This article is mostly about Geely, but Chinese automakers in general are innovating quickly, including LIDAR equipped entry level vehicles.

I have been nibbling on upstart Xpeng [XPEV] since 7/2022 [$24.45]. That was a bit early. EV mania was driving high valuations of EV stocks.
In 7/2023, I more than doubled down [$14.23]. I bought a smidgen more 3/2025 [$23.18]. It is currently at $21.80.
Xpeng is expected to become profitable this year.
A bit of a crap shoot. But I am optimistic.

Sales and gross margins are up:

The new G6 starts at 176,800 yuan ($24,402), 11.6% lower than its predecessor, while the starting price of the G9 is 5.7% lower at 248,800 yuan, XPeng Chairman He Xiaopeng said at a press conference.
Deliveries have increased 50% from 2022 to 2024.

Xpeng is expanding to markets outside China. [Asia & EU so far]

the company has continuously expanded its global footprint, now operating in over 30 countries and regions with approximately 150 overseas stores. Southeast Asia has emerged as a key focus after Europe, with XPENG accelerating its strategic deployment in the region.

By the end of this year, XPENG aims to be present in 60 countries and regions, establish over 300 overseas service centers, and rank among the top three global NEV exporters by 2027. By 2030, it aspires for half of its total sales to come from the markets outside of China.
