Canada May Remove 100 Percent Tariff On Chinese Made Cars:Has the Dike Broken?

There is a rumor flying around the interwebs that Canada is considering a plan that would remove its current 100 percent tariff on electric cars manufactured in China.

China EVs could appear north of US-Canada border. How long before Chinese EVs appear on US streets?

Not long if I can help it. Even the Ford CEO drives Chinese EV.

The “bring jobs from Canada to America” thing is working, short term. Honda is moving some production from Japan to the US, but more important, I think, is that both GM and Stellantis have said they’re moving some production south.

So if Canada is going to lose that production anyway, why not make a deal with the Chinese to eliminate the tariffs for, say, 2 years with a commitment to build their own plants - in Canada. Eventually, those cars will make it to the US, because tariffs don’t last forever - and then it will be the USians wondering where the production went.

Tariff war will be proven disasterous no matter what.

Will Canadians or Americans have the money over the next two or three years to buy a car.

Wait you say you have money? Is it in a financial institution about to disappear by next summer?
