Canadian inflation jumped 7.7 per cent in May, the biggest year-over-year increase since January 1983, according to Statistics Canada.

The increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was largely due to higher gas prices which rose 12 per cent compared to April. Statistics Canada also said that higher prices for services, such as hotels and restaurants, also contributed to the increase.
