Great Des Moines Register article touching on Casey’s small town strategy and how its new distribution center will allow it to expand to new areas. Seen posted on the Casey Stock Advisor board:
When the only gas station in Murray, Ia., population 700, closed a couple years ago, residents had to drive 10 miles to find the closest store.
“We had no place to buy gas or a loaf of bread,” said Scott Busick, who was mayor at the time.
So leaders in the Clarke County town, located about 60 miles south and west of Des Moines, approached Ankeny-based Casey’s General Stores Inc.
“They came down, talked to us, did a traffic count and agreed to build a store,” Busick said.
The 3,000-square-foot convenience store is on First Street, not far from the community’s only school. It has been a great addition, Busick said.
“The community really embraced us," said William Walljasper, Casey’s senior vice president and chief financial officer. "And we’re the only restaurant and only grocery store in town.”
