In what the company’s CEO is calling “a direct challenge” to the Tesla Semi, Chinese heavy truck manufacturer Windrose recently announced plans to build a new assembly plant in the US in a bid to sidestep heavy tariffs on electric vehicles made in China.
Windrose says US companies account for “the majority” of its approx. 6,500 standing orders.
Tesla/Musk dithering has consequences.
Citing battery supply chain constraints, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company doesn’t expect to begin large-scale production of its Class 8 electric Semi truck until the end of 2024.

In a bold prediction in October 2022, Elon Musk assured investors that Tesla would produce 50,000 Tesla Semi trucks by 2024. However, the reality has unfolded quite differently
A high-volume production facility for the Semi is currently under construction at Giga Nevada, with the first set of vehicles expected to roll off the line in late 2025.
PepsiCo, one of the few to receive the Tesla Semi, currently has 36 trucks deployed in its fleet, with plans to expand to 86 Semis soon.
All in all, Tesla has made under 200 trucks since the prototype was unveiled in late 2017. This figure includes Tesla’s own fleet of around 100 trucks doing test runs between its facilities.
Ho hm. EV vehicles are so booorring. Musk has bigger fish to fry such as AI, robo-taxi & robots etc. Much more exciting. And how much of Musk time is devoted to X? But will these future add significantly to the bottom line?
