Chinese assets at risk in Europe!

Strange way of putting it ‘reclaiming’:

What happened to that “rule of law” thing? Supposedly, what separates “good” countries from “bad”, is “bad” countries seize foreign owned assets.

Sovereign power is the real ownership.

For some reason we here in Europe are stirring up anti-Chinese sentiment:

Lord George Robertson now works for The Cohen Group which provides global business consulting services. I bet that a few defence contractors are on their books!

You really need to get out more.

I think that Russia has more to fear from China than we in the UK do:

That is a no-brainer. You can do better than that.

Putin is distracted by Ivan the Horrible or Great or ashes in a shoebox wherever or whatever that miserable SOB was.

Putin can not see how stupid he is.

There is no point to the Russian or Chinese leadership.

I’ve been pondering this myself. It’s like the ‘world order’, stable (in a fashion) since WW2 is coming apart. I recently came across an interesting article in The Economist:

The dysfunction at the WTO is emblematic of a world where the institutions and rules intended to foster international trade and investment are falling into abeyance. Every day brings alarming new headlines. The European Union, although supposedly both more supportive of free trade and more determined to reduce its greenhouse-gas emissions than other economic powers, is on the verge of imposing duties on Chinese electric vehicles. Last month EU officials raided a big Chinese security-equipment maker as part of a probe into subsidies. America recently imposed sanctions on more than 300 entities, including some in China and Turkey, for providing support to Russia’s armed forces.

It’s becoming more of a dog eat dog world every day.

The plans to seize Chinese assets would be initiated in the event of war with China.

In the event that the UK or Europe goes to war with China, or anyone else, I would expect this to happen. Why make statements like this? Are we in Europe going to invade, exploit or attack China again? I don’t think that they have any plans to attack us here in Europe, they never have done so yet!

… „good“ countries are run by „rulers we like“, regardless of what they do

Ayup. How many thousands, or tens of thousands, of Argentine civilians were snatched off the street, tortured, and killed, without legal due process? But the junta were “good anti-Communists”, so it was all good, as far as Shiny-land was concerned.

Often we are not to blame.

New concept

I have some idea of (the) complicity. The Argentinians need to behave. We are not solely to blame when others do not behave.

We were complicit in Yemen. Backed off supporting UAE and SA and now the Houthis are shooting at our ships.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Backing off leaves something on the table for someone else who is not nearly as nice. Ukraine is worse than Argentina.

It was one of the darkest periods in Latin American history. From 1976-1983, a brutal military junta ruled Argentina in what was called “the Dirty War,” when some 10,000 persons were “disappeared” and human rights abuses were rampant.

You have been more supportive of Russia.

I thought your article explained it pretty well:

“The deepening strategic partnership between Russia and the PRC and their mutually reinforcing attempts to undercut and reshape the rules-based international order are a cause for profound concern.”

This video is eternally relevant.

They dance alone, remembering their murdered children, spouses, parents.

One of the best friends of my childhood (Esteban, an Argentinian high school foreign exchange student at high school neighboring mine) was disappeared. His mother protested vehemently until silenced by the disappearance of her daughter.

Power flows violently into a vacuum.

If you know how to change that please speak up.

If you know how to give out justice without Russia and China flowing violently into the vacuum please speak up.

This is a very complex horror of the modern industrial state.

The United States of America may be the next victim of this horror.

I can only assume extreme stupidity not to see that. We are courting Putin.

The first echo of this violence is on women’s rights.

The violence is throughout our world. It is throughout all of human history. Imagine it throughout America next year. We have a choice not to offer violence.

So, just doing what the USA has been doing since WW2:

The United States government has been involved in numerous interventions in foreign countries throughout its history. The U.S. has engaged in nearly 400 military interventions between 1776 and 2023, with half of these operations occurring since 1950 and over 25% occurring in the post-Cold War period. Common objectives of U.S. foreign interventions have revolved around economic opportunity, social protection, protection of U.S. citizens and diplomats, territorial expansion, fomenting regime change, nation-building, and enforcing international law.

This just popped up for some reason. It provides some context for the statement:

July 9 (Reuters) - China and Belarus started joint military exercises on Monday, the Belarusian and Chinese defence ministries said, holding the drills just few miles (km) from the border of NATO-member Poland and kicking them off on the eve of the alliance’s summit.

One way to send a message. This part jumped out at me:

As part of the “anti-terrorist exercises”, military personnel of both countries will work out issues of night landing, overcoming water barriers, and conducting operations in a populated area, the Belarusian defence ministry said in its statement.

I’m not sure how many anti-terrorist operations involve contested river crossings…
