Citi - $3B

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/17/citigroup-shares-jump-5perce…

The 91-year-old “Oracle of Omaha” scooped up Citi shares while they have been underperforming the rest of the financial sector in the past 12 months.
The stock is down nearly 40% while the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund is off by 12% over the same period.

And the point is?

The point is Kingran jumped in ahead of Warren on this trade

" The point is Kingran jumped in ahead of Warren on this trade ;-)"

that is why he is the King

" The point is Kingran jumped in ahead of Warren on this trade ;-)"

that is why he is the King

Not just that.
Also, ran.

Citi has many issues and the next 2 years is going to be painful. So, WEB buying Citi may have boosted the stock price today, but you have to be prepared to wait and not easy for coat-tailing.

If you are looking to buy bank stock, you may want to buy BAC, especially after the big fall from $50 to $35, i.e, 30% decline from the top and WFC from $60 to $43. In addition, WFC is now much closer to the TBV, 1.3, outside of the dog days of $20… the price/ TBV is generally around 2. WFC has many catalysts, and any one materializing can push it back to $60. Of course it all assumes there is no recession.

Read somewhere that Citi is trading now at the same price as when John Reed was the CEO is the 90s.

I don’t know if this is adjusted for all the spinoffs (like TRV).

Can someone having access to very long term charts adjusted for spin-offs etc. confirm this?

From 1990 to 2000 starting $25 and the share price pretty much moved up with minor pullbacks to $450. Yeah in between it was around $50.

Given all the divestitures it is not relevant to compare price historically. My preferred model is the TBV (tangible book value) to price.
