And I care not one whit. I wouldn’t pay their prices, if the companies are separate, or merged into a single entity catering to insecure status seekers.

It has to do with higher quality. Just as with, say, food where some people are willing to pay up for higher quality ingredients or restaurants while others are fine with fast food joints.

I was in a discussion, in another forum, about this thing. It’s a station wagon, which I like. But $125 big 'uns? I paid about $22K for my VW wagon, and it carries my stuff and gets me there just fine.
I didn’t realize they grabbed Sonus Faber as well as McIntosh. That’s some serious gear under Bose now. Wonder what their plan is? Bose is known for having a signature sound profile. Nobody ever confuses Bose for being an accurate, neutral reproduction of the source material. The other two brands are focused on being neutral and faithful and accurate.
Sonus Faber has been owned by McIntosh for some time. I wonder how this will affect the marketing relationship McIntosh has with Pro-ject turntables.
And then there is not a wagon, but an incredible sports car that happens to have an incredible carrying capacity … 27 cases of wine on one occasion … low entry in the rear and enormous fun to drive.
By the way, MIT – yes, the university – is the majority shareholder of Bose thanks to a donation by the company founder, Dr. Amar Bose. However, MIT does not actively participate in the company’s management.
