This is really good news. Both CSX and Norfolk Southern have the problem that they were mostly build for coal trains. They have many bridges and tunnels with low clearance that does not allow double stack containers.
I recall watching freight trains go through Pittsburgh. They had single stack containers. We don’t have any of those in St. Louis.
Cheseapeake Bay gives Baltimore a special place in container shipments. They are 100 miles further west than competitive ports. Water transport is cheaper. That should give them a competitive advantage.
They have been working on raising clearances in bridges and tunnels for a while. The job is far from done, but great to hear they are making progress.
