I laughed out loud reading this article. And, yes, fashion is Macroeconomic because it’s big business internationally.
As for what I wore in high school… I was a nerd and wore ordinary clothes to school, which meant mini-skirts with the newly-invented panty hose since girls weren’t allowed to wear pants to school in the 1960s. This is what I wore to my boyfriend’s Jamaican family’s Christmas party in 1969 (age 16, high school senior). His mother was so protective that she would phone our house and ask to speak with my mother when he came over to hang out.
In college, I usually wore jeans in the lab since even a tiny splash of sulfuric acid could eat a hole in an instant. But I also liked wearing full-length gowns which I sewed myself. They were totally different from any current style but I liked them. I also liked to borrow my mother’s dresses - she used to say, “The first one up is the best one dressed.”
I despise sloppy clothes, especially torn jeans. I was painting plein air at the Sequim lavender festival a couple of weeks ago and four high school age girls wandered by in diverse flamboyant costumes. I complimented them on their flair and imagination because the costumes were well-put-together.
