Death Defying Backflips now approved for Olympic Figure Skating

…apparently this is even more dangerous than a back flip on the balance beam in gymnastics. Several skaters have gotten paralyzing neck injuries, but I suspect it’s good for TV ratings.

Check out the French girl doing a back flip with a one-foot landing.

Auyp. Just like having NHL and NBA players competing in this “amateur event”.

This crusty old phart thinks the Olympics should be track and field events only. That would attract less money, hence less corruption. “Break dancing” an Olympic event? Seriously?

Many years ago, an Olympic figure skater with very dark African-type skin from France was disqualified for doing a back flip. She did many other highly acrobatic moves perfectly. I watched her performance on TV and thought she was awesome. I felt her disqualification was pure racism.

Why would they do that to France?

I might have some of the details wrong, but previously, skaters had landed backflips on two skates, which was deemed unskaterly, because true skaters landed on one skate. So they banned two foot landings.

Bonaly circumvented the backflip rule by landing on one skate. But the judges deducted points anyway.

Olympic skating and gymnastics judging is right behind boxing on the corruption scale.

In our times of “likes” being the most valuable thing on earth boxing is falling fast in the corruption games.

If limits are not placed disasters happen. The chances of a disaster are always there. The athletes are under pressure to do more and more.

This is why limits are strict.
