DeJoy Resigns opening the way to control over post office

This can be fought but won’t be fought by the new Postmaster General.

iirc, DeJoy was TIG’s guy, on the last go around. Remember how stupid slow the mail got in 2020, when a lot of people mailed in ballots, because of the plague? That was DeJoy’s doing.

I am sitting with a retiree right now who was a top lawyer with the USPS. He is retired. The group is older than me here this morning in Starbucks. I am slowly bowing out of spending a lot of time with them because I have to be more productive. They get up at 5 am and the guys have mixed health.

I am now getting into some keywording of art for sales. I have my headset on.

He was called back in retirement as a consultant because of the messing around. He is with the opposition to his highness. He would say DeJoy simply took machines away because the post office was down in volume. The machines were not being used for years.

We get fed crap by our press.

Man, it is times like these that I wish we could access the old board. I recall one poster that was adamant that DeJoy would not last - that Biden would fire him. I specifically told them that DeJoy would last longer than Biden.

That’s the thing, though. The PG can’t be fired except by his/her own Board:

So yes, the Postmaster General can be removed, but not directly by the President. The Postal Board of Governors is responsible for appointing and, if necessary, removing the Postmaster General.

Postal Board of Governors Structure & Decision-Making

  • The Board consists of up to 11 members:
    • 9 Presidentially appointed Governors (confirmed by the Senate).
    • The Postmaster General, appointed by the Board.
    • The Deputy Postmaster General, selected by the Board and the Postmaster General.
  • Decision-Making Authority:
    • The Board has the power to hire and fire the Postmaster General.
    • It sets postal policies, including rates and services.
    • It works independently, with limited direct oversight from the President.

(and the Board members - and only the presidentially-appointed ones - can be removed by the sitting president, but only for cause)

That was my point exactly.

Does this mean plans to privatize the post office are moving forward?

Or will we copy Denmark’s plan to discontinue first class mail?

They are discontinuing all letter delivery. Everything has to be sent via packet/package. A small one, but no “letter” mail as I understand it.
