WaPo: Trump expected to take control of USPS, fire postal board, officials say

“Americans consistently rank the Postal Service among their most-beloved government agencies, second only to the National Park Service. A 2024 study by the Pew Research Center found more than 70 percent of Americans had a favorable view of the agency, a view that was similar among Democrats and Republicans.”

It is so irritating to see well run departments get ripped apart, USPS mainly because 45 hates mail-in ballots…

The Post Office and mail delivery gives the federal government presence ( and jobs) in every community across the nation. Everyone knows what they do.

Can they make a profit? Fund their pension liability? Adapt to changing markets? Decline in first class. Increase in packages.

What is not to like? Send more money!!!

If they strike i wonder if people will realize the mail is no longer needed. Much can be done electronically by email or payments. Parcels can be delivered by Amazon, UPS, or dozens of private services.

Is that what Trump means when he says privatize the Postal Service. If its redundant why do we need it??

It’s those things like Christmas Cards, Birthday Cards, Letters to home when overseas or on transfer out of area, returning signed contracts for work to be done, tons of little things, thank you notes, more than we give a 2nd thought about…We do most of out bill pays online, but some small businesses aren’t set up for it… So, no, it’s not redundant, but a well used option… All our prescriptions come via USPS, going to another service will just add to the costs…

Yep, it loses money because it underprices its service. So we subsidize it with losses. Is that what Congress intended? Will those pensioners get the promised money?
