The pilot is not an option for you if you did not live in one of the 12 participating states in 2023.
I think this is a great (long overdue) step from the IRS.
As an AARP Tax Aide volunteer, I think that many of the people who could use it (especially the elderly who are the primary client base of AARP Tax Aide) might not be tech-savvy enough to use it. But younger taxpayers probably will benefit once they learn about it, especially workers whose only source of income is reported on a W-2.
The IRS web site doesn’t say that the government will fill in the numbers (e.g. wages from W-2) the way that some European countries do. The taxpayer will still need to fill in the income numbers in the pilot program.
