if Canada were to become a state, it would be the third poorest in the country , right behind Alabama.
Everybody talks about the American debt issue, but Canadian households bear more debt relative to their income than any other G7 country. The average Canadian now spends 15% of their income on debt servicing.
This is a stark shift from 2008 when Canada emerged from the global financial crisis with a healthier balance sheet than any other G7 nation.
One indicator I pay close attention to is corporate investment per worker.
Every year, businesses invest in growth - new technology, new projects, new employees or products. If you take the total number that businesses invest during a calendar year, and divide that by the number of active workers in the country, you get the corporate investment per worker.
In the U.S., businesses invest about $28,000 per worker. In Canada, that number is only $15,000ânearly half.
Corporate investment is what drives future productivity , economic growth, and opportunity. The higher the number, the brighter the future.
I call shenanigans on that data. The per capita debt of the USA is higher than Canada so the only way that could be valid is if they are playing with the numbers - probably due to likely fact that Canada has more equitable income spread - or they are adding in Provincial/state debt to make the numbers look worse.
The cost of Canadian federal debt service is expected to be about $46 billion this year. Ours of course is 20x that amount.
Canada has 40 million citizens, slightly less than 10% of the total population of the USA.
Not an example of math competence, but this reporter gets worked by Poilievre -
Many believe Pierre will be the next PM. I donât see a Canada First conservative succumbing to pressure from its dysfunctional neighbor to the south.
Not long ago, TFG was pushing Wayne Gretzky for PM. Would not be the first sports âheroâ put in front of the mob. Look what Jack Kemp did for the USian economy!
Whatâs the over / under on how many kids Walker will spawn during his four years as ambassador? Maybe Iâm putting the cart before the horse, but Iâll say 5.
Think about it. What do most people âknowâ about sports 'heroes"? Their public image has been carefully crafted by their agents and the team ownerâs PR department. What do most people know about how he really thinks, or if he thinks? Reportedly Gretzky has been a repeat visitor to Mar-a-lago. He could think like Jack Kemp: having been made rich by playing a stupid game, instead of doing anything productive, his entire thing may be nothing but making himself richer.
I personally call shenanigans on all of these distractions. These populist talking points and sound-bites are just a distraction while the incoming administration plans out a tax bill under the radar. Next up on the distraction talking points is denying Federal Funds to California disaster emergency.
