Ten days – very unusual.
DB2
Double secret probation
Charlotte Clymer had information about this from an El Paso city council member.
El Paso City Councilmember Chris Canales wrote this from his Reddit account about four hours ago:
Hi y’all. This is real, but [no] reason at all to panic. We’re all trying to work out why this crazy NOTAM was issued by the FAA. What I know so far (as of 12:56 AM local time Wednesday):
• It isn’t a typo or an error. FAA issued this NOTAM intentionally as written.
• Nobody local got advance notice — neither civilian nor military leadership.
• Military does not have carte blanche exemption. Army seems to be fretting about their flights tomorrow just as much as everyone else.
• Local air traffic controllers didn’t get advance notice.
• Albuquerque Center (regional air traffic controllers) also did not get advance notice.
I’ll share more updates here as I’m able.
Punitive response to a violation of the emperor’s court?
Security breach and compromise local to El Paso that must be contained?
Cartel movements planned in the area which are specific, but not exact?
What other rumors can I dream up?
And now the closure is lifted.
The Federal Aviation Administration lifted the temporary closure of airspace over El Paso on Wednesday morning, abruptly reversing course after grounding flights for 10 days only hours earlier.
“There is no threat to commercial aviation,” the agency said on social media. “All flights will resume as normal.”
In a move that appeared to surprise state and local officials, the agency late Tuesday night halted all flights to and from El Paso International Airport for 10 days for “special security reasons,” isolating a major American metropolitan area from air travel. The closure went into effect at 11:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday and was to remain in place until 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 20.
I’m pretty sure aliens want nothing to do with us.
Yes, very unusual. Then again, we’re living in very unusual times.
Thankfully, we don’t have to dream up anything…Sean Duffy is on the case! He reported the closure was due to cartel drone incursions. Others report that it was due to testing of a new anti-drone technology. Weird that they would conduct these tests near an international airport…

I’m reminded of those “this is only a test” messages they play on tv usually in the we hours of the morning.
Just getting ready for the real thing and wanted to know how system would work. Testing!!
Those tests don’t typically redirect medical evacuation flights with zero notice to city officials. But yeah, besides that, it’s exactly like those tests.
Night time would find me at Rosa’s Canteena, Music would play and Felina would twirl. .

Now we’re really going to see how many illegal aliens ICE can deport.
There may be a small niche of aliens that like “disaster tourism”

Here’s the full story from CBS News. As I read this, it appears that the FAA feared that a rogue Department of War would be threat to aviation in the area.
There will be “retribution” to FAA staff. {{ LOL }}

Reports I saw said the military has new high power lasers under development to shoot down drones–especially those bringing in drugs from Mexico. The military decided to test it at a nearby military air base. FAA got wind of it and decided to protect civilian aircraft by shutting down airspace.
Major concern is military did not advise FAA, airlines, or govt officials of the plan.
Could be a turf fight between military and FAA. But clearly well defined communications are required. Who is in charge? Who can approve such trials? And why near a populated area/
This might help answer your questions…

Nope.
Border Officials Are Said to Have Caused El Paso Closure by Firing Anti-Drone Laser
People familiar with the episode said the use of the technology was not coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration. Officials targeted what they thought was a drug cartel drone, but turned out to be a party balloon, they said.
