“More specifically, here’s what we’re going to do. First, we’re going to get rid of fact checkers and replace them with community notes similar to X, starting in the U.S.”
Supposedly, maintaining minimum quality standards has been demonstrated to be an absolute waste of money given the competition can get away with running a cessp… errm, let’s call that “we desire to embrace free speech”.
In other words, no real fact checking. The corporate Quislings will give Trump anything he wants.
Yup. Facts don’t matter. Toe the line with the official narrative, or suffer “retribution”. As noted before, I have worked for “JCs” who were utterly delusional, and demanded everyone buy into their delusion.
Gone is the clause saying you cannot compare women to “household objects or property.” Also removed is a prohibition on claiming that there is “no such thing” as a trans or gay person.
But wait, it gets better. Gender-based derogatory discrimination is now EXPLICITLY permitted:
“We do allow allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation,” reads one exception. The same section previously said that users couldn’t call protected groups “freaks” or “abnormal”.
I have to admit being surprised by this. Facebook is about 100% dependent on advertising revenue, and Musk’s approach on X has been to drive them away, quickly and mostly without remorse. (Of course X is a pretty small player compared to Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, etc.)
If the same sort of thing happens, i.e. ads appearing next to hate content, I would expect advertisers to pull their ads - at least temporarily until that problem is corrected.
(Maybe Facebook has some sort of AI magic up its sleeve to prevent this, but the blueprint has been in public view for a year and the results haven’t been pretty for X.)
I noticed that Meta is moving their “content moderation” department to Texas – presumably to make it more inclusive of “racism, ignorance and innumeracy”. {{ LOL }}
