Finland, Sweden need to move now on NATO while Putin is preoccupied with Ukraine, former secretary general says

Russia has repeatedly stated it’s against NATO’s enlargement and it has named this as was one of the reasons for its invasion of Ukraine.

It is unclear how the Kremlin would react if both Sweden and Finland join the alliance.
NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has previously said both nations would be warmly welcomed.

Down the road? Of course.

But for now, need to buttress the problem extant.

(Overdoing it, in the here and now, could be construed as ‘sticking Vlad’s nose in it’. INTENTIONALLY challenging him. WHY?)

Should only be expected to elicit an (avoidable) response.

i.e. It is not called for. At least it shouldn’t be.
