For the High Yield Crowd

Hi all,

This table contains all the stocks in my followed universe with a current yield greater than 5%. Be forwarned that some of these names have considerable issues and risk associated with ownership of their shares. A dividend cut may be imminent but as far as I know has not been announced.

The order is in decreasing attractiveness of the dividend based on my ranking methodoligy.

Hi again,

Interesting that the table turned out pretty good. A slide bar at the bottom allows viewing of the entire table. Cool! If you hover the cursor over the table a “Expand” button appears and if you click it the whole table pops up for viewing. Really cool!

Anyway, I decided to track the performance of these stocks going forward. So, I invested $10K in each name, hypothetically, rounding off the share count to result in full shares (no fractional shares) and using Yahoo’s portfolio tracker.

It’s the start of a new quarter so a good time to do something like this. It’s noteworthy that SPY is down 25.6% from it’s 52-week high at the time of purchase.

Here’s the purchase info:

Price Annual
Ticker Shares Paid Amount Dividend
BEN 465 $21.52 $10,007 $539.40
DOW 228 $43.93 $10,016 $638.40

WU 741 $13.50 $10,004 $696.54

Yield = 6.1%

I’ll try to check in now and then and post how the port performs. If I forget, please remind me.

I own 6 of these out of about 20 in individual stocks, so it’s probably going to correlate pretty well with my portfolio, for good or bad.

IBM, INTC, PETS, T, VTRS, VZ. VTRS, mostly because it was spun off from PFE and I decided to hold onto it.

Hi all,

Well, it’s been about a month since we created this hypothetical portfolio. Let’s check in and see how it’s doing. Here’s the table I put together to track things with:

High Yield Port Dividend Annual Current Value Value

As luck would have it the timing of the purchase was just about perfect - right at the markets recent low. Another casual observation is that this high yield port is much more volatile compared to the dividend growth and my own ports.

The only dividend increase for this port came from HCSG and amounted to an annual increase of $3.97.

The portfolio value is up $14,154 or 8.3%. Not bad for 1 month. According to SA, the S&P 500 is slightly negative over the past 1 month (-0.39%).
