Free Gov't Mask, Covid Test Update

It was 56 degrees and sunny this afternoon in the Portland area so I decided to take the dog out for a brisk 6 mile walk and I stopped by the local Walmart to see if they had any of those free Gov’t KN-95 masks. Local TV station publicized the location of the 5 stores in SW Washington that had the masks in stock a few days ago. Surely they’d be gone by now.

Lady watching the front door pointed me to a small cardboard box next to a bottle of hand sanitizer. Label on the box said 50 count and it was nearly full. Walmart appears to be keeping the free Gov’t masks on the down-low. If you’re in a Trump-aligned area, no one’s going near the bottle of hand sanitizer.

I also got a second e-mail from the Post Office saying that my 4 free Gov’t COVID tests will arrive Monday – 2 days early.

Free Gov’t Masks and COVID tests is the best thing that has happened to America since Ronald Reagan handed out those free 5 lb bricks of Gov’t cheese in the early 1980’s.

I took two five packs of rapid tests to granddaughter’s birthday party yesterday to give my daughter who couldn’t get an opportunity to pick them up at the library. She told me to keep them as her boss (Federal Government all you know) gave her four packs of them on Friday at work. As usual if you spread the word things happen.

Perhaps also of interest, driving on major route through town (Connaught Ave. two lanes each way with divider) on the way passed a protest truck convoy lead by a police car with lights flashing going the opposite way. There weren’t a whole lot of actual big trucks … mostly SUVs but I suppose it allowed for a bit of venting against lockdowns, mandates and all the rest that kept a lot of Nova Scotians alive over the past couple of years. They were carefully not impeding traffic as the fines for doing so are nasty thanks to our fast moving current provincial premier who are the guys that make the rules.

Speaking of hand sanitizer: I was in Office Max a few months ago, and noticed an impulse display at the checkout: hand sanitizer, marked down to a nickle, from $3.99. Grabbed a bottle.

Back at that same store last week. Same display of hand sanitizer, but, with the plague resurgent here over the last couple months, the price was back to $3.99.

OT re Canon printers, found a Pixma MG5220 in the trash sitting on the curb last summer. Brought it home and found it works fine. My old HP died about a week later, so I have been using the Canon. The Canon absolutely drinks ink. I have been using the Office Depot brand refilled carts, and have gone through two sets of color tanks in six months. An HP brand color cart in my old printer would last a year. There are no specs on the box about how much ink the carts contain.

Has anyone else here noticed Canon printers to be particularly ink thirsty, or that the Office Depot brand tanks don’t last as long as the Canon brand tanks?

Wow! Around here I’ve not seen such a thing. At best, places would give you a disposable blue medical mask. And even that doesn’t happen much anymore.
