A new Gallup poll on nuclear energy shows strong support in the US.

Gallup also polled Americans on their opinions on fossil fuels versus renewable forms of energy. The trends show increasing support for fossil fuels and decreasing support for renewables.

However, there seem to be divided opinions on off-shore drilling, fracking, and fossil fuel development in ANWR. Those divisions appear to fall along party lines.

The American people do not understand nuclear power. They have poor memories of Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima. They have poor memories of the cost and schedule overruns by nuclear power plants. They do not understand that America is dependent on foreign sources of uranium. They do not understand the technical and cost uncertainties of new nuclear power plants.
Clearly the polls indicate favor. Since when has understanding ever been a part of it?
Understanding is needed to make informed decisions. We just had an election where the uninformed people voted for Trump because he promised them everything. But now they regret being uninformed about Trump as shown in recent polls.
