GBTC moving forward one step at a time

So, since I own some TSLA, Musk is part of me?

Well Denny, everything you said about me is not factually correct either. Although I didn’t melt down like a snowflake. LOL

Andy

I literally gave you the “exact” quote off the 10K. Verbatim Mark. All outlined in bold. They also hold Dogecoin those are also part of digital assets. So tell me out of the 936 of digital assets how much of that was Dogecoin?

I am not sure why you all are getting so upset over this. It’s all part of Tesla’s business model, you might not like it but if you are invested in it than yes, you do own bitcoin, and you do owe Dogecoin.

Andy

I am sure in your mind Tamhas, the answer would be yes.

Andy

How is any of this relevant? They held approximately $1.2B of digital assets (bitcoin, doge, etc) and sold a large majority of it … $936M last year. Now they report $184M of digital assets in their balance sheet. That is pretty much de minimus at this point.

Next year they may not even break it out into a separate line item if it is small enough.

Next year they may have even more digital assets, who knows? We will see next year. Because even now they are taking Dogecoin. But as long as you own Tesla, and Tesla owns digital assets, whether you like it or not, you own bitcoin or even worse, the terrible dogecoin.

Andy

I poke around the website and I couldn’t find a single item that you could buy with Dogecoin. There might be some, but they aren’t making it obvious.

@buynholdisdead @captainccs

I hope we can all move on now. Andy your shot at getting a shrink was well below the belt.

I love business and economics. Let hit above the belt.

He owns 13 percent of Tesla, and 13 percent of 184 million of bitcoin - digital assets they call it. So he owns about 25 mil of digital assets. That’s out of his total assets of well over 200 bil. So maybe a hundreth of a percent. Almost meaningless. Like 100 to 500 bucks for most of us less than our new cellphone costs us. You call that a lot?

I gave you a link to a faq sheet syke. I suggest you look at that and read the faq sheet.

Andy

There is no need to be rude, it was just a statement of fact. I indeed had looked at and read the FAQ before I posted. This is what it said:

Look for the Dogecoin symbol next to the “order” button for Dogecoin-eligible products.

Then I continued to the Tesla website and found zero products with the Dodgecoin symbol. As I said, I didn’t check every product, but I checked quite a few and I didn’t see the Dogecoin symbol on any of them.

As I said, there might be Doge-eligible products somewhere, but they aren’t making it obvious. That might make you mad, but the extremely limited product selection (maybe zero products) is not something in the FAQ. You simply referring me back to the FAQ is extremely unhelpful.

But I did find something interesting in the FAQ:

But if you use dirty fiat you can cancel orders and return items. It is almost like Elon really doesn’t want you to use Dogecoin.

LOL you guys are really stretching. Either you own bitcoin or you don’t. That is the question.

I am surprised you are Hypersensitive over this subject Syke,. Here let me point to the exact phrase so you can read it directly. I have bolded exactly what Tesla’s faq sheet says.

What cryptocurrency does Tesla accept?
Tesla only accepts Dogecoin. Tesla cannot receive or detect any other digital assets. Ensure you are making your purchase with Dogecoin. Sending any other digital assets may result in the assets being lost or destroyed. Non-Dogecoin digital assets sent to Tesla will not be returned to the purchaser.

https://www.tesla.com/support/dogecoin#:~:text=What%20cryptocurrency%20does%20Tesla%20accept,detect%20any%20other%20digital%20assets

Now that came off Tesla’s site directly and off the link I originally posted.

Andy

If anyone is stretching, it’s you. You claimed that Musk owns “a lot” of bitcoin. But how is a “a lot” defined? But now you’re backing off that statement (which is generally admirable to do when you are wrong) saying that “Either you own bitcoin or you don’t”. If your definition is used (own any stock, and you share in any bitcoin they own), then everyone who holds an S&P500 index fund, or pretty much any large index fund, owns some bitcoin. If that’s the case, why do most reports say that only about 19.7% of people in the USA own any digital currency?

It seems like you are magnifying what we call in engineering “edge cases”. Sure, if I own 0.00000001% of Tesla, I also own 0.00000001% of their $184M of digital assets. But so what? It is meaningless for any conversation regarding crypto or crypto spot ETFs.

The same applies to the dogecoin part of the conversation. Sure Tesla writes on their website that they accept dogecoin as payment for certain items, but nobody can find an item that can be paid in dogecoin, and furthermore nobody has ever shown how many products Tesla has sold in return for dogecoin, and furthermore nobody has ever shown that even if someone uses dogecoin for purchase that Tesla doesn’t simply immediately convert it into fiat local currency for accounting purposes. So, again, it is irrelevant to any conversation regarding popularity/acceptance of crypto because it is de minimus. Things that will really show widespread acceptance of crypto in normal life would be just that, the beginning of widespread use, and it becoming more common such that discussion about “edge cases” would never happen anymore … because there would be tons of normal cases to talk about and show. It may happen, and it may not happen, but neither of these cases are indicative either way.

I am not backing off anything. You guys are trying to define a lot by trying to dilute it. Anyone that says 187 million is not a lot or .0000001 or whatever number you would like well that is fine. Mail me 187 million since it is such a small amount.

What is important about the dogecoin is that they are still allowing you to buy Tesla’s with dogecoin. But of course it is irrelevant because it doesn’t fit your narrative. If you want to find out how to pay for a Tesla with dogecoin I suggest you call Tesla and find out how to do it exactly, for me, I could care less because I do not own Dogecoin.

Andy

Seems overstated to me. What I own shares in is the business. I don’t own shares in bitcoin anymore than I own a piece of a factory building. If bitcoin is material to their overall business, then clearly that is something I would want to evaluate as a part of evaluating their business, but if it is incidental to their business, as it seems to be at this point, then that is all I need to know.

According FAQ you posted, vehicles are not Dogecoin eligible.

On the contrary. I would say that both Musk and I own a piece of Tesla, the company … his piece being a wee bit larger than mine.

ah a wee bit now jonny

According to the FAQ I have continuously shown you, over and over, dogecoin is accepted. If you have something else to the contrary please prove it.

Andy

Happy to. The thing that clearly contradicts what are saying is the FAQ itself. First, let’s check the relevant parts of the FAQ that tells which items can be purchased with Dogecoin.

image

Great. First I look for the Dogecoin symbol. And then I look for the amount, clearly priced in Dogecoin.

What could be easier? Then I went to order a Tesla vehicle, and none of them had a Dogecoin symbol and none of them were priced in Dogecoin.

That means—according to the FAQ you keep posting–because there is no Dogecoin symbol and no pricing in Dogecoin, therefore Tesla vehicles are not Dogecoin eligible.

Next, I looked at other equipment to see if they were Dogecoin eligible. Again, no Dogecoin symbol and no pricing in Dogecoin. Therefore, as per the Tesla FAQ you cannot use Dogecoin to buy these times.

image

I can see why Tesla wouldn’t want to accept Dogecoin for big ticket items but what about merch? Same thing. No Dogecoin symbol and no Dogecoin pricing.

image

Again, I didn’t look at all of the merch, but none of the merch I looked at was Dogecoin eligible, as per the FAQ.

To summarize: according to the terms clearly stated in the FAQ, you cannot purchase a Tesla vehicle with Dogecoin.
