German politics on Ukraine

Watching the GREEN PARTY aggressively push a reluctant SPD chancellor towards delivering heavy weapons to Ukraine has been a surreal experience. I think I’ve been spending too much time with US politics.

Not only in Germany, but throughout Europe the Ukrainian War is forcing people to deal with Real Reality rather than the bizarre socio-politico twit “reality’s” that have preoccupied the continent, especially since the Brexiteers took alarm at Polish plumbers and Sicilian bakers. I expect to see a lot of lurching changing of positions, collapses of rotting political allegiance patterns, and mostly muted but highly emotionally charged “D’oh, what was I thinking?” moments.

Smell the coffee people, and get moving. “Just in time” economics with world wide neo-liberalist trade and enough human rights talk to lubricate trade was “Just a Dream”. Yes!, let’s play that great song by REM from their 1991 Running Out of Time, when we were happily wallowing in the end of the cold war and dreams of bright futures were being discussed but never woven:

That’s me in the corner
That’s me in the spot-light
Losing my religion…

I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
Try, cry, fly, try
That was just a dream
Just a dream
Just a dream, dream."

The USA probably has another decade or so of sleepwalking into walls and falling down stairs before finally opening eyes. Too much soft cushioning wealth and credit and military security for too long, perhaps.

I am very very happy with my sunshine “survivalist” plan in the Mexican countryside, complete with my now astonishing forest of various fruit bearing extremely nutritious nopal cacti, neighbors who give me rural eggs and a little pork from time to time in exchange for firewood from my little coppicing forest, and the glorious locally grown maiz.

Coffee first, and then buckle your seat belts because this will clearly continue to be a very bumpy ride for some time, and I mean the transition from fantasy lands to hard reality land rather than the more newsworthy and horrifying Putin war.

The anti-war Greens pushing the Socialists towards reality on Russia and war provokes the question of whether the Socialists and Free Democrats might coax the Greens into keeping the Nucs producing power so as help stave off both Russian dominance and GCC?

Hah. More reality digestion is needed.

Not meeting with my genius impoverished Mexican mathematics mentee in person today as it is too Holy a day for travel what with all the religious processions. He is good for me, being kind, hardworking, optimistic and devoted to renewing the world.
