As I write Guardant Health is up 23.1% today and Elastic is up 15.3% today. I see no company specific news or press releases on either of them which would account for either rise. Those are huge one day moves. Have any of you seen anything? It would be wildly grandiose to imagine that they are up like that just because I announced I had started positions in them … or would it? :grinning::grinning::grinning:

Saul, I was thinking the same thing. #SaulMovesMarkets.

GlaxoSmithKline announced it is buying Tesaro so other companies in similar therapeutic areas such as Guardant are seeing a pop.

And this is why so many on this board follow what you do, Saul, no matter what you say about not blindly following your moves. At least for the past 2 years, you’ve had the Midas touch of (almost) anything you buy going up almost immediately, and anything you sell, crapping all over itself.

Unfortunately, I’m usually 2-4-6 months behind you on buys as I try to not just blindly copy your moves, but look into the company more first, it undoubtedly gets me in a stock about 50% higher than you and others got in (I really don’t like buying IPOs so close to coming public, even before their first ER).

And I’m also not quick to sell, so never seem to be able to get out of a stock before it drops precipitously for some reason that you’ve warned about when you get out.

Don’t think I’ll ever be able to replicate what you do…but at least I’ve had my best 2 years EVER also, although the returns don’t come anywhere near the returns of many here, they’ve been fantastic for me and I thank you for the lessons.

This may be similar to what’s known as the “Fool Effect”.

When one of the Fool’s paid services like Rule Breakers would issue a new Stock pick at noon. The price and volume of that stock would spike within 30 seconds. There would be grousing online about Market vs. Limit orders but I don’t think that would make much of a difference when there’s a huge influx of buy orders.

In any case, the price would usually return to close to where it started within a week or so.

So now we may have a “Saul Effect”.

Have been looking for this pop for a while now on the Mondays following Saul’s monthly update and have seen little evidence of it. Until today.

This does bring up the question I wonder how many people are following this board?

Why jinx it? It is great as it is.

About 75% of all trades are algorithmic. No humans involved. Of course, that doesn’t preclude a “Saul effect”. If your trading is followed by sufficient human trades to get the attention of some algorithms that could start a snowball.

And then there’s the possibility that some algorithms are written to just watch your portfolio and copy whatever you do …
