GM - Massive recall of cars

This NHTSA probe includes GM vehicles from 2019 up to 2024, focusing on engine concerns in Chevy Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Cadillac Escalade, GMC Sierra, and Yukon models. GM has installed its L87 V8 engine system throughout all defective models.

That’s the 6.2L V8, in case anyone might have one. The 5.3 is problematic too, though. But it hasn’t been recalled. Toyota had a recall on their new turbo v6 as well. Makes you wonder . . . . .

Yipe. Seized engines. In their most profitable vehicles. And the cost of replacement engines is non-trivial, like a seat belt latch would be. Hyundai could tell Mary what a long running issue with engine oiling issues costs.

I wonder if the engines seize because they burned all their oil? Oil burning, from new, has become a common thing, in several brands of cars. People aren’t used to checking their oil all the time, like I did with my Thunderbird, 50 years ago.
