Public EV Charging Is Finally Getting Better

After years of declining public EV charging reliability, the first quarter of 2025 brings good news.

  • In the first three months, 16% of charging sessions were unsuccessful, according to J.D. Power.
  • That’s the best number from the last four years.

I would argue 16% is still too high.

You would hope compatibility issues are being resolved now that everyone uses Tesla’s plug.

Much of this seems to be maintenance. Problems need to be detected and resolved promptly. If company has chargers spread over several states how long does it take for service crew to arrive? Days or more?

The charging cable looks like an easy target for copper thieves. How can that be protected. Maybe car owner brings his own cable.
