GM President Mark Reuss said the new Bolt will cost about as much as the now-discontinued 2023 model, while also being profitable for the company.
“The 2026 Bolt will offer the same value as the original Bolt and much more. And it will be a money maker for us. Think about that,” Reuss said.
The new Bolt will go on sale in late 2025 as a 2026 model, he said. While the final price isn’t set in stone, Reuss said the new Bolt will cost only “slightly” more than the 2023 Bolt EUV crossover, which started at $28,795.
Reuss on Tuesday said it was too early to go into specifics about the new Bolt, but said it would have “the latest technology and faster charging.”

- GM is discontinuing the Ultium branding
- The company plans to introduce new battery options, including a cheaper pack using the LFP chemistry that’s common in China.
- GM estimates the switch will contribute to a cost savings of as high as $6,000 from one EV generation to the next.
LFP isn’t necessarily a new technology, but it is significantly cheaper than what GM is doing today. The chemistry is more stable, better for the environment by not utilizing minerals like cobalt or nickel (both are supply-constrained and often sourced unethically) and fairly inexpensive to produce.
Now, sure, there are some trade-offs. LFP batteries don’t offer the same energy density as current NCM cells, leading to lower overall range figures. They also don’t necessarily perform as well in the cold. But they’re good enough for most applications, offering hundreds of miles of range at an affordable price.
OK while no specs provided, the Chevy Bolt-less range-less capability-likely less acceleration. But AFFORDABLE and good enough and most important for execs-PROFITABLE.
Methinks there is a market for an affordable, good enough EV. I am looking forward for the full reveal of the Chevy Bolt and any other upcoming affordable offerings by other manufacturers.
