Hit the road Jack

Seems the USian national “news” has been too busy with it’s daily “severe weather” hysteria, and fawning over celebs and fuzzy puppies to report on the political crisis that has been going on in South Korea, since December.

Quick recap: deeply unpopular President Yoon, tried to stay in office, by ordering martial law, in effect, launching a military coup against his own government. The people weren’t having it, nor Parliament, and the coup collapsed in a few hours. Parliament voted to impeach Yoon. Since then, the Constitutional Court has been deliberating what to do with Yoon.

Tonight, the court issued a unanimous decision confirming Yoon’s impeachment. He is thus removed from office, with immediate effect. Elections will be held in 60 days.

Sing it Ray.

I guess in these days it is remarkable when a politician actually is held accountable for a coup attempt.

The Koreans have living memory of life under authoritarian regimes. When Yoon tried it, they said “not again”.
