I thought I’d posted this last week, but maybe too many other things going on…
DW bashed her driver side mirror leaving our Dentist’s parking garage, dark, tight spaces, in any case it destroyed the mirror, plus scratches in the door below, not dented, but cut through the clear and “Galaxy Gray Metallic” paint… I rotated it back into position, duct taped it, made it drivable, but a sort of split view in the shattered mirror…
Got an estimate of our favorite body shop, $3,075! Ouch! So I looked, found the assembly online, painted for ~$375, but it seems a bit daunting to replace, pulling the door panel, connectors, etc. I’ve done it on my truck, but…
So I filed with our insurance, just got a note from the body shop, that they’d been approved, they found a used mirror, so the estimate likely has changed, but still above our $500 deductible, including the paint fix…
Just now got a schedule date for 1/30/23, so now we can set up a rental car (included in our policy)…
Check car_part.com. Dspending on type, could be as low as $45. Simple to re place, one plug beneath door panel, perhaps 3 to 4 screws. Way less than the deductible re
Thomas Guide shows it about $4K, so it’s getting close… But Insurance OK’d it, but did make him go for a used mirror… So far I don’t know what the final bill will be…
I did find an exact color matched one, but also saw many after market ones, under $40… But, then there’s the door scratches, paint, etc… So now it’s between the Insurance & the body shop to sort it out…
OK, Civic went into the body shop Monday, supposed to be out Friday. Insurance Co had the body shop go for a used mirror, they found one the right color, apparently, so there’s still the door to refinish. Have not seen what the adjusted estimate is now, or kinda wonder if we ever will…
And today, the poor Civic had an owie… For whatever reason the bumper to fender connection failed, a stop by the body shop and they replaced the screw holding it… No charge, maybe it was a little loose, but fixed in a few minutes… I could nudge it back a bit, but it needed the better view from the guys that deal with it daily…
