The EV will intensify in the US in the next 2 years.
Detroit may have thrown in the towel. Not so from Korean automakers.
Base level Kona starts at $32,675. Does it have the range & power of a Tesla base model 3? NO. But it is cheaper and may be good enough for many consumers.
According Hyundai 63,994 Konas were sold 2022, 79,116 in 2023, & 53,252 sold so far this year.

Hyundai’s EV plant comes as Thailand’s auto market quickly shifts to electric vehicles. Although Japanese automakers, like Toyota and Nissan, have historically dominated the Thai auto market, Chinese EV markers are rapidly stealing market share.

With nearly 30,000 electric cars sold in Thailand last year, BYD was the top-selling EV brand in the nation. And that’s after entering the market just two years ago.

BYD has maintained its momentum in 2024 with a 46% share of Thailand’s EV sales in the first quarter.

Last year Hyundai completed a huge factory in Korea.

Of the 31 passenger car brands represented last month at the sprawling Indonesia International Auto Show outside Jakarta, about a third were from China. The vast majority of those were electric vehicles.

Striding past fashion models and huge video displays, Safik Bahsein made his way to the BYD display, where he honed in on a BYD Dolphin, which promises 300 miles on a single charge and sells for the equivalent of $26,000.

One of the residents of the apartment complex across the street from me drives a Kona. I know it’s an electric, as it whirred past me, while I was taking my walk this morning. That apartment complex does not have garages, or carports, or chargers in their parking lot. I don’t know where that person is getting his coulombs.

Work charger? I just bought an Acura ZDX and just got my home charger. But, for the little I drive, I could get by with charging at work on the ChargePoint system they have there (and it doesn’t cost a lot either).

The company has been manufacturing EV motors since 2000 and its EV lineup includes the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. The Nexon EV is a popular SUV that can travel up to 312 km on a single charge, while the Tigor EV is a compact sedan that can travel up to 213 km on a single charge.
