I’ve been shot in the arm …

… with Pfizer bivalent and a flu vaccine.

Previous three covid shots were Moderna. Liked the idea of the bivalent at this point, hence the change of manufacturers.

DS gets his later today. Different insurance, different doctors, so different processes. But at least we’re on the same day.

We need to make an appointment for ours. We had one but DH hurt his foot and wanted to wait.

Kiddo has been shot now. We didn’t necessarily need appointments, but making them allows me to fill out some paperwork at home with all the requisite info handy. Much easier than doing it with a clipboard on your lap in a waiting area.

Congratulations! I get mine on Friday afternoon—Moderna yet again. Not sure why you thought Pfizer is the only approved bivalent shot. Moderna was approved very shortly after Pfizer was. I’m sticking with Moderna because of the specific antibody type that predominates in response. I produce normal numbers of that antibody, and I’m a little low in the predominant antibody types that characterize the Pfizer response.

No flu vaccine for me. I’m very allergic to it. But in terms of timing, some vaccine specialists recommend separating covid and flu by several weeks rather than combining the two initiators of inflammatory responses.

Likely a bit of misunderstanding on my part. In chatting with the pharmacist at my son’s appointment, Pfizer recently got approval for their bivalent for children. That’s probably the source of my error.

Got my bivalent booster this afternoon — and to my incalculable relief, it’s made me a little tired, and that’s all! Used moist heat on the injection site when I got home (it’s an item that you boil, then wrap in a towel, and it delivers a long period of heat), took 2 hi-strength ibuprofen (which I hadn’t done previously), fell asleep for a while, and feel tired but reasonable now. No aches, no flu-like feelings.

I was a little tired the day after my latest injections. I got both the covid and flu vaccines.

However, I’m not sure whether the vaccines were to blame or the cats - who kept me up half that night playing King of the hill. On me - I was the hill.

The next night - last night - I evicted them and shut my door. Slept for over 8 hours and feel much better.

I spoke too soon about my easy booster sequelae. Way too soon. The moist heat helped enormously, but not nearly completely. And by the time I went to bed, I was feeling pretty fluey. Feeling much better now, but arm still sore and not quite myself yet. Basically turned this into an almost totally unproductive day. But…really glad and relieved that I now have the bivalent booster!

When I showed up at my pharmacy a few weeks ago, I decided on the spur of the moment to get my senior flu shot rather than my bivalent covid booster, figuring they’d run out of sr flu shots first. Then I got bronchitis and I’m only now feeling well enough to consider another shot. Because of likelihood of feeling poorly, I want to get it on a Monday as I have more caregiver coverage on weekdays and don’t want to fall asleep or feel miserable during my “shifts” with the hubster (on Sat/Sun, that shift is 12:30pm~7pm, on weekdays it’s usually 1pm~3:30pm except Tuesdays or Thursdays when it’s 10:30am~3:30pm).

Not sure about next Monday as my M (T or Th) and W aide was in a car accident yesterday after picking up her kids from school. Everyone’s OK but her one & only car may have been totaled. I can get a sub on Monday, but just for 2 hours. I can get a sub on W and F for 4 hours, and I’m doing that today. My weekend mornings aide is available on Wednesdays and Fridays. MTTh I need to get my late-afternoon aide as a sub, and she can only come for a couple of hours as she has a daily late morning client (the original client in that slot just died, but her husband needs help now).

As for my covid shot, I have 3 Pfizer shots so I’m going for Moderna this time.

Juggling the shifting tides of your aides when it comes to an unpredictable need on your part is tough! Makes sense to go for Moderna, but it tends to produce stronger side effects. And it’s so individual. I just talked with a friend yesterday who had gotten Moderna for her first 3 shots, and got the bivalent Pfizer last Thurs. And is STILL not feeling well!

Good luck in timing it well, and in a no big deal reaction.

The shifting aides is a small deal, really. I seldom need to deal with it, and when I do I know who to call. My weekend aide arranged a sub for today as she had to be out of town for a family emergency. The sub was great and welcome back any time. The only person I have no backups for is my late-afternoon/weekend evening aide, but except for a 3-day vacation, she hasn’t missed a day . Maybe the new sub can be her backup.

So glad to hear that folks are getting their Covid boosters. My fiance’s aunt and her SO were both hospitalized with Covid a couple weeks ago. They are both home now and recovering. They both were vaccinated but neither had a booster.

I’d felt kind of bad going so long without a booster. Our last boosters were in December of 2021, so we were going on 10 months.

On the other hand, I do have some concerns with timing the booster shots to the need. I didn’t want to get a booster in the middle of summer when the risk of catching the virus is lower. And the bivalent boosters were still talked about as coming soon. Once they were available and we were getting into fall, the timing seemed right to me. Add to that the fact my son was beginning a job with a lot of public contact, and it was clearly time.

Couldn’t agree more.

We were the same. Dec of 2021. We were going to get boosters last summer, but then heard about the updated vaccine being available in the fall, and said “we’ll wait for that”. Well, just before we were going to get the booster, we all came down with COVID (me first, and then I probably gave it to everyone else before I was showing symptoms). Now, per the CDC, we need to wait four months for the booster. Well, a bit less than three now.
