Is OUST Having a Moment?

Note One: Nothing you might mistakenly stumble across here represents any sort of recommendation - that would be a bridge to far and way, way above my pay grade.

Note Two: It’s summer - take your kids to the lake, a baseball game, the park, out for ice cream, or to just chunk a frisbee around. Get them swimming lessons or a refresher - whatever; the point is, spend some time with them because they grow up fast. Now, if they have already growd up and have kids of their own - then send their kids a nice drum set, pay for some summer camp - or buy them a pony…maybe a chicken. Chickens make great pets and you can always eat them or the eggs.

Ouster, Inc…street name OUST does something or other with Lidar; which, I have no idea about nor interest in…But - the company came up twice lately (Once by a Guru I subscribe to and once by happenstance whereby I was reading some article or other. To be clear - I don’t own it so it fits in a giant category of a whole lot of other stocks I don’t own just now.

Here is what Ouster says about OUST:

"Redefining Autonomy. Reimagining Society.

Our high-resolution lidar sensors, perception software, and solutions are ushering in a new era for safety, efficiency, and sustainability by integrating into existing and future applications."

Highlights:

  • Miss by a bunch on EPS
  • Revenue of 32.63M representing a BEAT by 1.7M.
  • Revenue Growth: 26% YoY.
  • Non-Gaap Gross Margin of 41%

Obligatory CC CEO Comment:

“As a Physical AI company, Ouster offers advanced perception solutions powered by digital lidar combined with AI software to empower machines to perceive, understand, and interact with the physical world in real time.”

Demand in the first quarter was primarily driven by customers in the industrial and automotive verticals for use cases in warehouse automation, yard logistics, and robotaxis.

Revenue Growth Last 4 QTRS:
26%
23.11%
26.41%
39.15%

Guidance for 2Q is 35M at the high end. Based on my own eyeballing of all the contributing factors available - I estimate that 2Q income will come in between $38k to 40k. Taking the low end would result in Revenue Growth of just over 41%. Not too awfully shabby.

Note that on June 11th the stock price “jumped” based upon its something or other being approved by the DoD for use in unmanned aerial systems. If you’d like to read that twice just to be sure here is the quote:

" its OS1 digital lidar was approved by the Department of Defense for use in unmanned aerial systems.

Following a review of components and cybersecurity testing, the Defense Innovation Unit approved and added the Ouster OS1 to the Blue UAS Framework. The Ouster OS1 becomes the first high-resolution 3D lidar sensor approved under the Blue UAS Framework. "

So…Is Oust having a moment? As I went thru all this I made a note to check back to see if it deserves a spot on the Scout Team when/if I put together a new port.

I find the Fire Engine that squirts water to be a great gift. Especially if you put some disappearing ink in the tank.
