Is there any difference

Between a windfall tax on oil / energy companies and a payment towards common prosperity by companies in China?

good morning, I wonder if this might change Buffett’s thinking politically? Should pharma pay, windfall profits tax based on our covid policy on vaccines? Should big box retailers pay, because administration policy gave them a HUGE competitive edge? It’s, complicated.

I interesting question. Is there any difference between paying taxes in the U.S. and making payments towards “common prosperity” in China?
Have a wonderful day!

Here in the UK its estimated that BP are going to pay c£800m. Shell have escaped because they’re investing lots in the UK apparently. Although there are calls to up this.

I dont understand what youre saying?, common prosperity is an additional payment on top of normal taxation, so like a windfall payment.

Common prosperity payment is voluntary. So far only a few (Tencent, BABA as I know) setup common prosperity fund. And they are self-serving, the fund is used to invest in some aspect of the poor areas that will benefit its own business.
