Key Posts from the first 1500

We now have 1500 posts on our board in less than 5 months, and I’m afraid that the really useful posts may get lost in the crowd. Someone who is coming new to the board now, will never be able to go through 1500 posts and profit from the most useful ones. Therefore, I’ve decided to go through myself and repost what I consider to be the key posts from the first 1500. Please let me know if you agree or disagree with this, or think it’s a waste of time.

Saul,

good idea,

Andy, I find that it’s really hard to choose because there are so many good posts.

Saul

To me, I find it easiest to click the board, sort by recs, and start at the top.

Not surprisingly, most are Saul’s if one does this

Saul,

I would like to take the opportunity to respond to your Key Post idea and your Open Invitation in the same reply:

Key Post Idea: GREAT idea! I’ve gone back over certain stocks and thoughts on this board many times over the last few months, trying to find information or comments about certain stocks (e.g., where did Saul get his idea about SZYM? Who are the retail distributors for KRED? etc.) So thank you for linking us to your key posts!

Open Invitation: I can’t speak for any other investors, but my story is very simply that I don’t feel I have any information or insights on any stock that is worth mentioning. I don’t want to appear to be sponging off of the more experienced and successful investors out there, but I restrain myself to avoid being a waste of time by posting uninformative opinions.

I will and do give a lot of recs though, so thank you for what has quickly become one of my favorite MF boards!

That’s a great idea Saul.

All the best, Brian

Saul,

Great idea and I have another idea for those that will read those special re-posts…have a piece of paper and pencil at the ready, note on the top the name of the board as well as the number of the post that you think requires more thought.

I have my own list from when I first went through all of this board’s posts and there are indeed, many gems.

Hey Mr Sideshow,

With a statement like that, there is all the more reason that you post some questions/statements here. I am in the same boat but what I found was, once I posted my silly questions (only those not asked are really stupid), I felt very motivated to give back.

I do that as best I can. Eventually, as I get better at investing due to the constant interacting with better investors, I’ll eventually be able to even the score. The guys on here, and led by Saul, are great and have tremendous patience and that makes them smart since eventually, one of us who tilt the scale on the taking side, is going to come up with a great idea or statement or thought that everyone will profit from.

Could be you but we won’t know until you start writing.

Perhaps most of you know this trick but I’ll mention it again. I mark any really important posts that I what to keep and easily be able to find as “reply later.” then go to Favorites & Replies for a list of those most valuable posts. That’s where I can find some of Saul’s great posts and Tom E’s posts on his method for calculating free cash flow, and other past posts I want to find easily in the future.

What a great idea. A novice like me has reread some of the original posts at least twice. Sometimes it takes awhile to sink in.lol a great board. Congrats !!!

Drdm, That’s a great idea. I’ll try to remember that, and I’ll start with hitting respond later on your post.

I should have added once you are at the Favorites & Replies page you must go to the “Marked For Later Reply” tab.

Thanks D, this has become one of my most time saving tactics.

Thank you Saul for bringing these important posts forward.

Is there no other way to “save” these types of posts either as individuals or perhaps as a group to elevate to certain posts to a Saul’s Discussion board specific Hall of Fame.

Perhaps someone from MF can address this question.

Thanks
Eric

If you just want them for your own personal reference, one trick is to click “Reply Later” on a post. You can then see all those posts by going to your “Favorites & Replies” and clicking on “Marked for Later Reply”

But that doesn’t really help people new to the board.

If folks think it would be helpful and useful, I would be willing to volunteer to build a FAQ of sorts that would try to pull together Saul’s primary responses (with links to the original posts), and I could post it monthly so that it’s not too hard for new readers to find.

Generally important posts have more “rec” and if so, just order by rec.

If folks think it would be helpful and useful, I would be willing to volunteer to build a FAQ of sorts that would try to pull together Saul’s primary responses (with links to the original posts), and I could post it monthly so that it’s not too hard for new readers to find.

Seems like it would be extremely useful to have a compilation (I guess like an index!) of the most useful and informative posts. Subject title and link to post. (Well, maybe not the actual subject title of the post, which is not always definitive about what is most useful in the post, but titled regarding information provided, maybe along with post title, and link to post). I’ve been thinking about this too (but not so far as to the point of volunteering to create it — kudos to you Neil).

But, what I would add — If you created a FAQ page, and posted it, say you posted on July 1, and it was post 3000. Then, Saul could also add that to his signature, so that each post he makes includes a reference to the most important posts up to July 1. For example, Saul could sign posts,

Saul
FAQS to Saul’s Boards: Post 3000

Or, something more clever.

Then, for example, Neil, if you actually took on updating once a month, in August, you could post the update for all to read, but then, as well, Saul could update his signature to the newer post number. So he’s always “advertising” the previous thorough and useful posts and doesn’t have to steer people back to them, and members don’t have to remember the number of the FAQ post or wait for the once a month posting to find it.

Another idea, you know how to the right of all postings on all boards there’s the announcement board? And how that has links that might be interesting to readers of that board? For example on the SA Community Page board (that is home to the SA Challenge) there is a link in the announcement box to the Challenge spread sheet. I don’t know who is in charge of choosing or putting the links in the announcement box for the different boards. But it would be great if a FAQ post was created, and we could keep a link right to the right of all the posts on this board labeled, FAQS for Saul’s Discussion Board. Then, with each update, the link could be updated. But the link would always be right there accessible to anyone on the board.

Just some thoughts…
