Legion 5 Pro Gen 7 - good deal?

This looks pretty good to me at a $1600 base price for:

  • AMD Ryzen™ 7 6800H Processor (3.20 GHz up to 4.70 GHz)
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX™ 3060 Laptop GPU 6GB GDDR6
  • 16 GB DDR5-4800MHz (SODIMM) - (2 x 8 GB)
  • 2 TB PCIe SSD Gen 4 (2 x 1 TB)
  • 16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, HDR400, 100%sRGB, 500 nits, 165Hz, LED Backlight, Narrow Bezel, Low Blue Light

That is going to be a great gaming system. Keep in mind it is big and heavy by laptop standards coming in at about 5.5 pounds.
If you are going to be on the road a lot with it you might rethink the screen size. I have a smaller and lighter laptop that is super easy to take on the road, and then plug into an external monitor at home.

Weight isn’t a concern since it will be parked at home 100% of the time. Just looking for a future proof 8 core AMD 6000 based upgrade to my $600 Dell Inspiron 15 7000 2 core bought at the end of 2016. This new Lenovo would be huge overkill for my current use cases (I don’t even play games!) but wanted to make no sacrifices for a change. Ideally, I was intending on getting a pure AMD based laptop, with both CPUs and GPUs, but those seem harder to come by. Lenovo does have this $2400 monster, but I don’t need THAT much power!

Then why not a desktop?

Then why not a desktop?

“Just in case” I need to take it somewhere. Easily portable if I have to, but mostly stationary.
