Millions of Americans are struggling with long-term symptoms after contracting COVID-19, with many of them unable to work due to chronic health issues. Katie Bach, a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, said she was “floored” when she started crunching the numbers on the ranks of workers who have stepped out of the job market due to long COVID.
Her analysis found that an equivalent of 1.6 million people are missing from the full-time workforce because of the disease, which can leave people incapacitated for months with persistent symptoms including fatigue, brain fog, headaches, memory loss and heart palpitations.

Yes!
I saw that a few days ago. I’m surprised that no one has mentioned it before now.
And 30% of the US population is unvaccinated and spawning new COVID variants – long COVID may be as commonplace as obesity in a few years.

My SIL is 51 and caught COVID in early December. She was vaccinated. I don’t think she was able to get the booster before catching COVID.
She’s now been sick for 7-8 weeks and the list of symptoms above is more or less a description of her condition. Her heart races up over 130 bpm randomly. She’s always tired and in pain. Doctor said, “it’s long COVID.” Sounds absolutely miserable.

There are like 70 million obese people in the USA, so let’s hope not.

Some people are helped considerably by antihistamines; she could try different OTC drugs of that class, such as Benadryl and Zyrtec.

How long ago was she vaccinated? Does she have any pre-existing autoimmune conditions?
From what I’ve read on covid long haul boards, the large majority of long covid sufferers are unvaccinated.

Last April. She didn’t get a booster, so I’m sure diminished vaccine efficacy played a role.

Yes, but I don’t know the details.
She was definitely not in the low-risk group and should have gotten the booster as soon as possible. I think they had some trouble scheduling a booster locally (in CA) and she was sick before they managed it.
Bad luck. She’s still sick 2 months later, and progress has been very slow. But, at least there has been some progress.
Going back to the OP. She’s managing to go to work, but at the end of the day she’s miserable.

Was that a single J&J or a double mRNA shot?
