Hi -
We bought a 2022 Camry LE Hybrid. So far so good. The mileage ranges from a low of 48 mpg to 62 mpg. Pretty impressive. We got the LE because the reported mileage was better then the XLE or SE.

Just courious… what does Toyota say the life span on the H-battery is?

In Canada they’re talking about a 10 year 240,000 km warranty on the H battery.
I might risk one.

Hmmmmmmmm, thanks for this Pete.
IMPO, I'm not "on-board" till they last closer to 20 years. I'm known to hold a vehicle for decades... (*1989 Nissan Hardbody, I bought used in 2000 and still drive it*) ...and this is something "**I**" don't want to have to replace. __EVER*!*__

I was thinking that, too but then I realized that Toyota has been building these things(hybrids) for about that long and we haven’t heard too many horror stories about them
I’m getting closer and closer to pulling the trigger on one.

Here's my take... I was taught that once you've paid off a new car (or any car for this matter) it's supposed to start paying you back, minus standard maintenance. When this car eats $3k+, every 5-8 years, this auto will NEVER PAY YOU BACK! Sorry, we're almost ready for battery #2 in Mrs PL's 08' Honda Hybrid and if it were not for fuel prices and the car is paid for... I'll not buy another car that takes more than one battery, unless it's a diesel truck.
Then, there's another huge question: what about the recycling of a ton of dead batteries? Yea, another reason I want 20 years... but the industry still wants "planned obsolescence". )o:

I don’t know. The warranty is 10 years / 150,000 miles.

On the car? ...the battery? ...or both? Usually the Lawyers who write contracts vary these.
It was 5 years on the battery, in 08'... but I couldn't see the detriment till later.

2008 was a long time ago

Yep… and like I mentioned, we’re due for another $3k+ battery, in the next 2-3 years! Previous/Orignal lasted <8 years.
When this car eats $3k+, every 5-8 years,
Let’s put that into perspective. And to round generously, let’s call $3k+ 5000. And let’s use 5 years - because that’s the short end of your range and I suspect the math is going to be something I can do in my head.
A $5000 expense every 5 years is $1000 per year. $83 per month. Frankly, that’s not a lot.
this auto will NEVER PAY YOU BACK!
Well, what other car could you buy for that $83 per month payment? Your hybrid electric car is paying you back for keeping it, just like pretty much every other car. And if it’s only 4 grand and every 8 years, that’s half the cost per month.
A new Accord (not sure if that’s what you’ve got now, but it’s likely similar) runs north of $26 grand. Monthly payments (ignoring most of the interest) are about 450 a month for 5 years. If this 83 a month is the difference between paying you back and not paying you back, your non-hybrid car isn’t paying you back very much.
Now, is paying 5 grand every 5 years fun? No. But every older car is going to get a little expensive from time to time. Transmissions fail. Expensive, long interval maintenance is needed (timing chain/belt might be one example). Granted, this is on top of all the typical ICE long-interval maintenance. So it does cut into your payback. But I find it highly unlikely that this cost makes it so that the car will NEVER PAY YOU BACK!

So, how long do you keep a vehicle? Must not be too long, since you don't seem to understand the benefit...

So, how long do you keep a vehicle?
Here’s a bit of history for you for my bonafides
1984 Toyota, purchased new, disposed of in 2001 when engine failed.
1990 Plymouth, purchased new, disposed of in 2004 when it no longer met our needs. Put two transmissions in this one.
1999 Chrysler, purchased used in 2001 to replace Toyota, disposed of in 2010 when trans showed signs of failing, and opportunity for replacement came.
2001 Chrysler, purchased used in 2004 when we needed a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Replaced 1990 Plymouth. Disposed of when needing to transport two wheelchairs on a regular basis.
1998 Honda, purchased used in 2010 from my brother, who was selling it for less than the cost of replacing the tranny in the 1999 Chrysler. Put a transmission in this one, too. Sold when wife quit driving in 2019.
2013 Sprinter, purchased used in 2016 to replace 2001 Chrysler. Still own. Will probably dispose of in next year because it’s too darn expensive to maintain and is cutting into the benefit of driving older cars. Also, my wife died and I no longer need to transport two wheelchairs all of the time.
1999 Chevy, purchased used in 2021 as a fun second car for me, and a potential investment. If it pays off, great. If not, I still smile every time I drive it.
So yeah, I understand owning cars for a long time and repairing instead of replacing. I’ve also taken to purchasing used instead of new. Let someone else take that depreciation hit.
And I still claim that replacing a battery in a hybrid vehicle doesn’t keep it from paying you back. It makes the pay back smaller, but its still there.

The warranty is 10 years / 150,000 miles.
