New Slate Pick U Truck Factoids

Given the whole battery-cost hurdle, you might expect the startup’s pickup to use lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cells, a chemistry that’s gaining traction worldwide thanks to its lower cost. You’d be wrong. Slate is going with pricier and more typical nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries.

The Slate has a projected range of 150 miles and is designed and engineered to get you through most local daily driving needs. A longer-range battery pack extends the range to a projected 240 miles.

Slate’s projected range estimates are based upon the EPA test cycle and official EPA estimated ranges will be provided when available.

Rather short range. How much more will be the 240 range?

Is that a crank window in the truck?

Methinks a hybrid small pick up would sell like hot cakes.

2025 Toyota Tacoma ~$40k
length 226.2 width 77.9

2025 Ford Maverick ~$29.5k
length 199.8 width 83.5

2027 Slate
length 174.6 width 70.6

Slate is a truly small pick up.

Isn’t the choice ICE or EV, not hybrid?

Wind up is the new tariff free power source. It requires no imported oil, no rare earth elements, only spring steel and elbow grease. :flexed_biceps:t4:

How many miles per wind?

If they start selling these things, I’m in. This is exactly what I want.

A two-seater with hand-crank windows and no radio?

Absolutely! I had an old-school Toyota SR5, two seat pickup with hand crank windows for a decade. It was awesome. Perfect size for what I needed. This almost the exact same size, plus it has a frunk.

No radio is a bonus. Factory infotainment systems are expensive, become dated quickly, and have high rates of failure. I’d rather just use my iPhone.

There is an option for factory speakers (which means they are probably easy to install yourself), or there is a factory speaker mount if you wish to bring your own. Factory speakers are awful, so I’d rather install my own anyway.

I dunno? BYD sells more hybrids than EVs.

Yes, but we are discussing Slate, not BYD.

Methinks a hybrid Slate would broaden the appeal of it product like it has with BYD.
