{ "After countless tests, doctors still couldn’t determine the cause of his illness. Then, Pendergraft said she looked at her dad’s leg.

“I saw his foot and was like, ‘Oh, gosh. Could this be the flesh-eating bacteria? The vibrio?” Pendergraft said. " }

So… They need Dr House.

Pendrgraft’s message might also include a call for an overall manual observation of the patient? You know, look the patient over and note any “concerning/questionable” conditions?

As a side note’

Some flesh eating bacteria are GmPs.
{ The compound, designated PS757, represents the first of an entirely new class of GmPcide (gram-positive-icide) antibiotics, and targets Gram-positive bacteria, }

Is vibrio a gram positive?
{ "Vibrio are gram-negative bacteria that are naturally found in warm, salty marine environments, such as salt water and brackish water.

More than 20 Vibrio species can cause the human illness vibriosis."}

An old idiom of medicine - when you hear hoofbeats, think horses not zebras. During medical school I always wondered what doctors in Africa thought.

Didn’t read the article, but maybe the patient’s story didn’t line up with vibrio infection until all other more common causes were exhausted.

Reminds me of a time my FIL was hiking in the Smokies and when stopped at a waterfall, he stepped off into a standing pool of water. His foot looked like he had stepped in acid for the next two weeks. We never did figure out what was the cause.
